The new semiconductor driver unit SRM-400S is the successor to the SRM-353X. It is equipped with a custom low-noise DUAL FET in the first stage, and an FET in the final stage (amplification stage). As with the SRM-700S, the DUAL FETs used are all selected and matched after measuring the left and right characteristics. It inherits the design and manufacturing know-how of the voltage amplification stage all-FET amplifier adopted in the higher-end model SRM-700S.
As with the preceding vacuum tube driver unit SRM-500T, the SRM-400S uses a newly designed power transformer with a new winding for the low-voltage circuit in addition to the conventional high-voltage circuit. By adopting this low-voltage winding, the power supply efficiency has improved, achieving power saving and improved sound quality compared to conventional driver units.
In addition, a new chassis has been adopted that is wider and more rigid than the SRM-353X. It has a hybrid structure that makes extensive use of non-magnetic aluminum, further suppressing the effects of physical external noise such as vibration. The input system is exclusive to RCA and XLR. The custom-made dual-axis 4-unit volume and RCA input parallel out function common to STAX products are also installed as in the previous model. In addition, the various electronic components used are also carefully considered in terms of sound quality, performance, and the environment. The fully DC amplifier configuration that does not use any coupling capacitors in the signal circuit continues to be one of the major features.
While inheriting the high-resolution sound and dynamic low-frequency reproduction of semiconductor circuits, it pursues a better sense of balance than the SRM-353X. Each band from low to high frequencies is expressed in a calm manner. It is suitable not only for combination with the Advanced Lambda Series, but also for stepping up from the entry-level system SRS-3100. This is a promising new model that covers the entry to mid-level in the revamped driver unit lineup.
